PHOTO OF THE WEEK #4 - Jelly Fish

I'm a day late in posting my photo of the week from two weeks ago.  Last week was such a busy one, and I had thought I would try and get it posted last night after returning to Surrey from the wedding in Quesnel, but I was way too exhausted to turn on the computer.  It was such a great week.

So here is the photo of the week from the previous week.  :)

As a kid, we visited the Vancouver area every summer.  We would always go to Stanley Park and the Vancouver Aquarium.  Year after year I took many, many photos at the Aquarium.  My favourite ones were always the Killer Whales and the Sea Otters.  Every year my photo albums would fill up with almost exactly the same photos.  haha

There is no more Killer Whale show at the Aquarium, but the Sea Otters are still as cute as ever.  Ben loved it there.  He ran all over taking photos and videos with his camera.  These jelly fish were some of our favourite.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #2 - Safe or Out??

There were so many photos to pick from for last week's Photo of the Week.  It was tough to narrow it down, but I finally ended up picking one of the action shots from the ball tournament.  It's always great to see a close play in the infield!

So what do you think??  Safe or Out??

MY COMMUNITY - The Michael Worrod Help The Kids Play 2012 Tournament Preview

When I photograph events, my goal is to capture the essence and spirit of what is going on.  I hope I accomplished that this past weekend.  To view any of the photos larger, just click on them.  That will take you to the gallery where all of the photos from this blog post are hosted.

Help The Kids Play Tournament 2012

What a fabulous weekend it was for the 2012 Michael Worrod Help The Kids Play Slo Pitch Tournament.  There was some rain on Saturday morning, and for the most part, it was stinking hot and humid, but overall, I think it was fantastic!  :)

First off, I want to thank the committee members, sponsors, team participants and volunteers for dedicating time and resources to such a great cause.  I know the huge amount of work that is involved in order to pull one of these types of events off.  Throughout the course of the weekend, there were quite a few younger volunteers helping out at the concession as well.  It was great to see entire families getting into the spirit of paying it forward.  From 2007 through 2011, over 100 kids have had the opportunity to participate in local sports because of HTKP.  I think that's pretty darn awesome!

Committee Members

I have hundreds of photos to review, edit and post after spending over 20 hours over the course of the tournament at the diamonds taking photos.  I should have the full gallery up in the next couple of weeks.  Once it's ready, I'll notify the HTKP Committee and they will pass on the gallery access information to the leagues/teams who participated.

In the meantime, here is a small preview of the weekend......

Baseball diamond food!! So yummy, but not necessarily so good for you.  ;)
I should have taken a picture of one of the 4 frozen yogurts I had.  Those were full of yum!

After the Saturday morning rain.

Go waaaayyyy back!

Did they make the double play??
Unfortunately, I can't remember if they got the guy out at first too.

SAFE!!
SAFE!!

Happy Birthday to Bob Candy!
Cake at the diamond!!  :)

Mmmmmmmmm

A small, shady spot to sit and eat.
Finding a small shady spot to rest and have a bite to eat.

Of course there was BEER!

Lots of space for the kids to run around and be kids in.  (checking in only when food or beverages were required, of course!)

Players and Fans

These are just a couple of collages of some of the action fans were treated to during the weekend.

When I arrived at one of the games on Saturday afternoon, I saw a lot of these flyers posted around.....

And then I saw THIS!

Hey!  Isn't that the Umpire??

It was EVERYWHERE!

Doug, your team must REALLY love you.  ;)

And finally, here are the winners for each of the three divisions plus the traditional 'Old Timer vs. Young Timer' game.

Winner of the Ladies Division - Team Blue
Ladies 'Blue' Team - Tournament Winners

Winner of the Old Timers vs. Young Timers - The Young Timers
'Young Timers' - Winners of the All Star Game

Winners of the Men's Division - Loretto Inn
Men's - Loretto Inn - Tournament Winners

Winners of the Old Timer's Division - Brew Jays
Old Timers - Brew Jays - Tournament Winners

And this post wouldn't be complete without showing the huge grin on Piero's face as he rounded the bases after hitting his GRAND SLAM HOME RUN to win the game for the Brew Jays!

Thanks to you all for another great weekend of ball in Tottenham, ON.  And thank you once again for allowing me to photograph such a fantastic local event for such a great cause.  It was even more fun this year than last!  :)

Thanks for looking!

MISCELLANEOUS - Harvest Share Box Weeks 2 & 3

I forgot to post a picture of our box for week 2 so I'm combining weeks 2 and 3 in one post.  I also forgot to take a picture of the box when it arrived for week 3.  I did snap a quick one of a few of the new items that were in it though.  :)

Here is what was in the box for week 2:
  • Strawberries - Barrie Hill Farms, Barrie
  • Boston Lettuce - Spring Farms, Holland Marsh
  • English Cucumbers - Foothill Greenhouses, Kettleby
  • Cauliflower - S & S Visser Farms, Innisfil
  • Sugar Snap Peas - Barrie Hill Farms, Barrie
  • Yellow Pepper - Exeter Product, Exeter
  • Red Beets - Spring Farms, Holland Marsh
  • Garlic Scape - Carron Farms Ltd., Holland Marsh

I made a great pasta with the cauliflower.  Still have to cook the beets.

And here is the list for week 3:
  • Strawberries - Barrie Hill Farms, Barrie
  • Red Leaf Lettuce - Spring Farms, Holland Marsh
  • Kale - Spring Farms, Holland Marsh
  • Celery - Chip's Garden, Holland Marsh
  • Cauliflower - S & S Visser Farms, Innisfil
  • Sugar Snap Peas - Barrie Hill Farms, Barrie
  • Yellow Tomatoes - Van Hart Greenhouses, Holland Marsh

The feature ingredient is the kale so they also sent a recipe to try out.  I'll let you know how it goes.

I just made a great salad using 7 items between these two boxes (boston lettuce, red leaf lettuce, strawberries, celery, tomatoes, cucumber, garlic scape). Mmmmmmm

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #1 (YEAR 4!!!!) - Happy Canada Day

I really find it hard to believe that this photo of the week represents week 1 of year FOUR of my 'Photo of the Week' project.

I started this project to make sure I would be photographing something, even if life got really busy.  I don't think I've ever missed shooting at least one photo every week, but I know I was late at posting it at least one time (my goal has always been to post a photo from the previous week).
