PHOTO OF THE WEEK #26 - Precious Little One

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas.  I've been totally losing track of the days and should have posted this on the weekend.  It was so nice to have this little precious one in my studio before Christmas.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #25 - Decorating the Christmas Tree

While the family was decorating the Christmas tree last weekend, I took a few photos with my phone.  (Gotta capture those moments!!)  :)  This guy just looked cute with all of the lights around him.

Week #25 - December 16, 2012Decorating the TreeTottenham, ON

And, as we were decorating the tree, I was reminded of when Ben was much, much smaller and had the cutest little voice, and decorating the tree was such a new adventure for him....

Fortunately, we have a video for that!!  heehee  Well, it's actually in two parts and Ben will probably be mad at me for posting it, but that's ok.  He'll only be mad if he realizes it.  MWUAHAHAHAHAHA  :)

You may need to crank your volume up, as his voice is tiny (mine, of course, is extra loud since I'm holding the video camera!).

Decorating the Christmas Tree - Part 2
(I'm not sure if he just learned about the word 'beautiful' or what....haha)

Thanks for indulging the 'mommy' in me.  :)  If only he were still so tiny and innocent.

Wishing you and your families a most wonderful Christmas.  Be safe!

Thanks for looking.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #22 - The Woman in Red

I was down this weekend with a case of the 24 hour flu (generously shared with me by my son and husband).  Fortunately, I was only out of full commission from Saturday evening until this morning, but I did neglect to post the Photo of the Week from a week ago.  So here it is!

Without this wonderful woman, generously donating her day to sit in front of the camera, we would not be able to do our 'Photos with Mrs. Claus' fundraiser at the Women's Christmas Showcase of South Simcoe.  Thank you Shelley.  :)

And thank you also to Ginette for all of your help with editing photos this year.

For those who didn't make it to the showcase, we offered digital images on a DVD 'while you wait'.  There weren't as many people stopping to have their photo taken this year (fewer kids at the show I think), but we still managed to collect $55 for "My Sister's Place".  Not close to our $160+ we raised last year, unfortunately, but we will definitely make it our goal to get back to that number for next time around!

CLIENT SHOOTS: A Morning With Mrs. Claus

If you've been following along for a while now, you will know that this will be our third year at the Women's Christmas Showcase of South Simcoe in Tottenham.  It will be our third year doing photos with Mrs. Claus.

Prior to the actual vendor show, I do a little session with Mrs. Claus to help everyone get into the spirit of things.  Since this was our third time, I changed things up a bit and borrowed a couple adorable little girls to help us out.  They got to spend the morning with Mrs. Claus.

It was a fun morning and I think everyone had a fabulous time.

I am excited to be working again with Shelley Barlow, Ginette Stone and of course, my Ben.  This year we are providing your Portrait with Mrs. Claus on a disc at the show.  There will be a minimum donation of $5 and part of the proceeds will be donated directly to "My Sister's Place".  You will also have the opportunity to order Custom Mounted Gift Prints and Christmas Cards as well as purchase Gift Certificates.  So please stop by to say hello and have your portrait taken with Mrs. Claus.

Thanks for looking and I hope I see you at the showcase!  There will be a lot of fabulous local business women there.

CLIENT SHOOTS: Baby on the Way

This is one that I should have posted ages ago. When I was in BC this past summer, I was lucky enough to see my cousin Michael and his wife Yayoi. They were expecting the arrival of their new baby around the time that Ben and I were scheduled to return to Ontario.

I had been hoping the baby would show up a bit early so I would have a chance to photograph their precious newborn, but that didn't happen. Fortunately, I did convince them to let me take a few maternity portraits. :)

These were taken at a family get together and were VERY impromptu. The setting was my Aunty Arlene's beautiful garden.

Less than a week after I was back in Ontario, Hiroki was born.  I love seeing the photos and videos on my cousin's Facebook Timeline of their new baby boy.  He's such a cutie.  :)

CLIENT SHOOTS: Meet Debbie

I'm so behind in blogging sessions and even just some fun stuff too.

Back in September I had Debbie Bullock in the studio for her Professional Headshot session.  We did both indoor and outdoor shots.  Here is one of the images from that session.

Here is a little bit of information about Debbie:
"Debbie has spent the last 10 years helping families plan for their children's post secondary education through her Registered Education Savings Plans practice.  With a desire to help her families with their whole financial picture, Debbie became a life insurance broker.  Specializing in both risk management and RESPs, Debbie has dedicated her practice to helping families to prepare for the unexpected challenges that life can present - the "what ifs?"
Debbie also founded the WOW (Women of Wonder) Money Club, which hosts financial planning home parties for groups of six to eight women."

I met Debbie through a business networking group and it was such a pleasure photographing her.

What fun these two girls had just over a week ago (yes, I'm a wee bit late in posting this one since we started a new week already!).

They got to spend part of a morning with Mrs. Claus.  Once again Mrs. Claus and I will be at the Women's Christmas Showcase at the Community Centre in Tottenham this year on November 25th.  You'll see more posted about that event soon, but we do a preview session and some of the images are used to help promote the show.

One of the first questions the girls asked me was......"Santa has a wife?!"  :)

I'm very behind on my blog session postings, but keep an eye out for the post about this session.  What fun it was! :)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #15 - No Fishing

We spent Thanksgiving weekend camping at Emily Provincial Park which is near Peterborough.  It was our first time going to that park.  That's what I love about having our travel trailer.....we can visit new places every summer.

While there, we met up with my friend Al, who was at his trailer near there for the weekend.  He took us on a little tour and we went to Lindsay where there was their Farmer's Market going on and we also visited the Locks in Lindsay that are part of the Trent-Severn Waterway Lock System.

Ben, Paul and Al tried a little fishing.  I followed Ben for a bit and he ended up at this spot.  He had just dropped his line in and I took his picture.  Then I looked around......LOL Ben!

When I asked him if he had read the sign he said 'no' and then he had a look.  He was a bit mortified when he saw it.  haha

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #14 - Happy Birthday

Paul turned 50 this summer.  With how hectic the summer was, we never had the opportunity to properly celebrate this milestone in his life.  So last weekend I had a party for him.  Because I knew I would be very busy, I decided that I would leave my cameras in my office and only use my phone.  It was tricky once the sun went down, but I did manage to get a few shots to remember the evening by.

You can't have a birthday party without a birthday cake.  So here is a quick snapshot of his birthday cake.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #11 - Paying Attention

Well, a week ago was Ben's ball league's season ending tournament.  His team was awesome this year.  The team was a mixture of kids who had never played ball before, had been playing since T-ball, girls, boys and one who was too young for the division but was an amazing player (and I think paid the most attention on the field!).  But with all of the practicing the coaches did with them, along with the support of their parents, all of the kids improved in all aspects of the game.....even in the paying attention part.  haha (...which is important if you don't want to get hit by the ball or if you want to make some great plays!)

By the end of the season they were hitting well, making some plays in the field and I think Ben was even running a wee bit faster around the bases.  He felt bad during one game when he got a player out at second base who was from the T-ball division as she was filling in a spot on the Jr. B. team they were playing against.

Ben's team went 14-2 in the regular season.  The games during the final weekend tournament were great games and really fun to watch.  They ended up not only coming in first in the season, but also at the tournament.  It's the first time for Ben, so was quite exciting.  And.....it was also the first time I had ever missed the awards ceremony where they got their trophies, as I had to work.  I did ask Paul to take some pictures with Ben's camera, which he did...........  I gave him a 6 out of 10 for quality and Ben gave him a 1 or 2 I think.  LOL  It's not entirely Paul's fault though, as Ben had some funky setting on his camera and wouldn't change it.  But even though a lot of the photos are blurry, you can still see the big smiles on all of the kid's faces.  :)

So here's a picture from the tournament where it actually looks like Ben is paying attention.  I'm sure he can hear coach Ted's voice from the outfield.... "Eyes on the ball, glove in front, pay attention"  Heck!  He even looks like a ball player in this photo.  LOL

CLIENT SHOOTS - Club Vallelonga Monserrato Golf Tournament

Back in August I had the pleasure of shooting a golf event for Club Vallelonga Monserrato.  The tournament was held at Glen Eagle Golf Club in Caledon.  The day turned out to be beautiful, weather wise.  Ginette Stone came out to do assist with the shooting as well as the onsite editing.  It was such a pleasure working with her.

We took shots of the golfers teeing off as well as putting and searching for balls in the tall grass.  I provided a slideshow video for the organizers to play during the dinner and the golfers were able to download their favourite photos from a private online gallery the next day.

Here are a few shots from that day.

CLIENT SHOOTS - A beautiful day for a wedding

It turned out to be a fabulous day for a wedding in the Schomberg area late August.  The wedding took place on an absolutely gorgeous property.

I really love smaller, more intimate weddings, and everything about the day was perfect.  There were even purple martinis to go along with the colour theme!

I had the pleasure of having Ginette Stone shooting with me again, who I really enjoy working with.  Here are a few of the highlights from the afternoon.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #10 - My little baseball player

Baseball season is almost over for both Paul and Ben.  Because of our trip to BC, Ben missed a few more games this summer than he normally would, but he still improved quite a bit over last year.  He had some great coaches and they did a lot of practice, which I think really helped.  Plus.....he's finally almost old enough to actually pay attention for most of the game.  ;)

Last week I took his team's photos.  For the League, I do a composite that includes the individual and team photo in one 8x10.  But for my photo of the week, here is Ben's individual photo.

Their closing tournament is this weekend, but the Saturday games were rained out.  Hopefully Sunday will be a better weather day at the diamonds.

CLIENT SHOOTS: A Wedding in Quesnel, BC

I'm finally starting to catch up on my blog posting.  This summer I was able to make the trip to BC for my friend's wedding.  I hadn't seen her in YEARS, so it was great to reconnect and to be able to photograph this special day for her.

It was a wedding filled with a lot of unexpected happenings throughout the planning process and even that day.... but in the end, it was a beautiful ceremony, with family and friends looking on.  A lot of fun was had by all at the reception that evening and I'm so glad I was able to be a part of it.

Congratulations Kristy and Jim.  I hope you have many, many years of happiness.  :)

PERSONAL: First Day of Grade 4

Ahhhh finally.  The first day of school.  This summer was extra hectic and crazy and I feel like I'm so behind with everything.  I think the agenda for next summer will be to plan to do less!

It figures the first day of school would be gloomy and rainy with thunder booming in the background.  I prefer to take his first day of school photo outside, while he's waiting for the bus, but we opted to keep my camera dry today.

I don't think I'm the only one who is happy to get back into somewhat of a routine.  A few minutes ago, I caught Maggie, laying on her bed, on her back, with a smile on her face.  I think she'll miss Ben during the day though.

I hope everyone is enjoying their first day of school.  My task for today is to get re-organized both personally and professionally.  I can't think straight with the house and my office in such a state of chaos.  If my afternoon is as productive as the morning has been, then I should make some good headway today.  :)

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #6 - Mmmm Sushi

Week 6 of this year's 'Photo of the Week' project marked the end of my trip to BC.  I took a lot of photos on the trip and the thing that my family bugged me about most was all of the photos I took of food.  ;)  I LOVE photographing food.  Food is often the centre of bringing family and friends together.  How can I not photograph it?!

I unfortunately only ate sushi 3 times.  I should have had it every day....haha  It's more expensive to eat sushi out here in Ontario.  My sister in Surrey has about 10 sushi restaurants within walking distance.  That's crazy!  I only tried two of them.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK #4 - Jelly Fish

I'm a day late in posting my photo of the week from two weeks ago.  Last week was such a busy one, and I had thought I would try and get it posted last night after returning to Surrey from the wedding in Quesnel, but I was way too exhausted to turn on the computer.  It was such a great week.

So here is the photo of the week from the previous week.  :)

As a kid, we visited the Vancouver area every summer.  We would always go to Stanley Park and the Vancouver Aquarium.  Year after year I took many, many photos at the Aquarium.  My favourite ones were always the Killer Whales and the Sea Otters.  Every year my photo albums would fill up with almost exactly the same photos.  haha

There is no more Killer Whale show at the Aquarium, but the Sea Otters are still as cute as ever.  Ben loved it there.  He ran all over taking photos and videos with his camera.  These jelly fish were some of our favourite.

MY COMMUNITY - The Michael Worrod Help The Kids Play 2012 Tournament Preview

When I photograph events, my goal is to capture the essence and spirit of what is going on.  I hope I accomplished that this past weekend.  To view any of the photos larger, just click on them.  That will take you to the gallery where all of the photos from this blog post are hosted.

Help The Kids Play Tournament 2012

What a fabulous weekend it was for the 2012 Michael Worrod Help The Kids Play Slo Pitch Tournament.  There was some rain on Saturday morning, and for the most part, it was stinking hot and humid, but overall, I think it was fantastic!  :)

First off, I want to thank the committee members, sponsors, team participants and volunteers for dedicating time and resources to such a great cause.  I know the huge amount of work that is involved in order to pull one of these types of events off.  Throughout the course of the weekend, there were quite a few younger volunteers helping out at the concession as well.  It was great to see entire families getting into the spirit of paying it forward.  From 2007 through 2011, over 100 kids have had the opportunity to participate in local sports because of HTKP.  I think that's pretty darn awesome!

Committee Members

I have hundreds of photos to review, edit and post after spending over 20 hours over the course of the tournament at the diamonds taking photos.  I should have the full gallery up in the next couple of weeks.  Once it's ready, I'll notify the HTKP Committee and they will pass on the gallery access information to the leagues/teams who participated.

In the meantime, here is a small preview of the weekend......

Baseball diamond food!! So yummy, but not necessarily so good for you.  ;)
I should have taken a picture of one of the 4 frozen yogurts I had.  Those were full of yum!

After the Saturday morning rain.

Go waaaayyyy back!

Did they make the double play??
Unfortunately, I can't remember if they got the guy out at first too.

SAFE!!
SAFE!!

Happy Birthday to Bob Candy!
Cake at the diamond!!  :)

Mmmmmmmmm

A small, shady spot to sit and eat.
Finding a small shady spot to rest and have a bite to eat.

Of course there was BEER!

Lots of space for the kids to run around and be kids in.  (checking in only when food or beverages were required, of course!)

Players and Fans

These are just a couple of collages of some of the action fans were treated to during the weekend.

When I arrived at one of the games on Saturday afternoon, I saw a lot of these flyers posted around.....

And then I saw THIS!

Hey!  Isn't that the Umpire??

It was EVERYWHERE!

Doug, your team must REALLY love you.  ;)

And finally, here are the winners for each of the three divisions plus the traditional 'Old Timer vs. Young Timer' game.

Winner of the Ladies Division - Team Blue
Ladies 'Blue' Team - Tournament Winners

Winner of the Old Timers vs. Young Timers - The Young Timers
'Young Timers' - Winners of the All Star Game

Winners of the Men's Division - Loretto Inn
Men's - Loretto Inn - Tournament Winners

Winners of the Old Timer's Division - Brew Jays
Old Timers - Brew Jays - Tournament Winners

And this post wouldn't be complete without showing the huge grin on Piero's face as he rounded the bases after hitting his GRAND SLAM HOME RUN to win the game for the Brew Jays!

Thanks to you all for another great weekend of ball in Tottenham, ON.  And thank you once again for allowing me to photograph such a fantastic local event for such a great cause.  It was even more fun this year than last!  :)

Thanks for looking!
